Welcome to Our Mascot Gino's Page

8/31/2007

It is with a heavy heart & great sadness that we report the death of our beloved Mascot, Gino the Greyhound.  Gino was much more than 'just a dog' to the staff of American Recycled Plastic, and to the Hazlett family as well.  Until Gino became ill, he would come to work every day and brighten the days of each and every staffer at ARP.  Once Gino became too ill to come into work, he stayed at home and was tremendously loved by Amy, Mike and their kids Mikey, Marshall and Mandy.  He truly was a part of two families -- a work family and a home family.

Gino, like many greyhounds, suffered from hip dysplasia which became so bad that, despite multiple attempts at treatments, his rear legs would no longer support his weight.  For a former athlete like Gino, no longer being able to stand upright for more than 2-3 seconds was just too much to bear.  He was loved till the end, and when he died Friday he had his home family with him, in a loving and peaceful environment.

To all our wonderful customers, vendors, and friends in the community that would come in and visit Gino, we want to say THANK YOU for every kind word you gave him, every scratch on his ears, every pat of his head, every kind e-mail sent to him.  Gino loved people and attention and had a wonderful life.  Although we only had 5 years with Gino, we remember this:

It is not the number of years in your life, but the life in your years.  And Gino had great life in his years!

Thanks for loving Gino along with us!                  Amy & Mike Hazlett

Introducing Gino, American Recycled Plastic's Beloved Mascot!!

Gino's Official Mascot Portrait

That's me doing Yoga at lunchtime. We Greyhounds sure do love to stretch!

Me in our showroom - come visit me, I love to greet my customers!

Thinking of new things to build with recycled plastic!

Here's me, doing what I do best!

I like to rest after a hard day's work -- Oh wait, this is what I do all day!

"Greyhounds Rock!"

"Boy this phone sure does ring a lot!"

"It's exhausting being me!"

Hello and thank you for visiting my favorite part of this website! My name is Gino, and I am the Official Mascot for American Recycled Plastic! I am tail-waggin' thrilled to be a Mascot, as I used to be in the Racing business.....but more about that later.

You can rest assured that when you buy things from my company, I will personally supervise all the staff at American Recycled Plastic and make sure they make you the best furniture ever! You will really enjoy recycled plastic outdoor furniture, I have some in my own backyard and I must say, I am having a hard time destroying these picnic tables, benches and rockers! It's not like wood products, which were so easy for me to chew up in the past. And when I have a little "accident" on recycled plastic, I don't get into any trouble - because the nice folks at American Recycled Plastic tell me animal urine does not affect the plastic at all! Boy does that make me happy!

For all those who are curious, I am a 88lb, 3 year old retired Greyhound racer. I look big, but I am really just a huge Couch Potato! I love to sleep, I love to go on walks and most of all I just love having my ears scratched. On August 28th,2002 I was rescued from a local shelter and given a terrific home to live in with a big backyard and kids & cats to play with! But during the day, I was bored and decided I needed a new career. After much discussion with my best friend Mike, we decided I should go to work with him every day. And , so, I no longer have to race - I have a nice place to live and work, and I'm so happy I was rescued by Mike!

You know, the folks at the shelter where I stayed were so nice to me, but they just can't equal a loving home. If you are considering adding a pet to your home, and have carefully considered the costs and responsibilities, then PLEASE go to your local shelter and tell them GINO sent you! You'll be able to select a wonderful new pet to love and will be saving a life in the process - remember, 3 out of 4 animals in shelters never find homes and must be euthanized*. An animal from the shelter will also be spayed or neutered for you too!

And who knows, maybe your new pet can become your Official Mascot too - let's start a trend!!!

Thanks for stopping by Gino's Page. Come back soon, please visit me! If you're in the area, stop in and see me -- I'm here most every day, busy napping!
